What happens when you fall in love when you’re young and have a baby with a guy that you know in your heart of hearts won’t be around all the time? Well, if you are Ariel, you do whatever you can to survive. And you learn to hide your heart. Obviously. How many times can you allow it to be crushed? Ariel’s life is going one-way and one-way only and she accepts that, she just doesn’t see the gigantic Viking-sized hurricane heading her way.
OK, be prepared to be amazed. Neil is a fabulous book that will frustrate you, make you laugh, make you tear up and sniffle a little (**no spoilers, I’m just gonna say that Sybil was able to evoke a ton of emotion into one paragraph on multiple occasions**). Neil will also make you swoon, growl out of aggravation (SERIOUSLY – the dude needs to chill a little bit 😂), and make you take sides quickly (but then the sides switch, and switch and switch, oh, and switch one more time 😂). Neil is a New Adult Romance that delivers a ton of heat and a type of romance that hits you after the fact (yeah, I know, that doesn’t seem to make much sense but it will, I promise).
Sybil brings a host of characters to life in Neil. Since this is a standalone novel and I wasn’t familiar with any of the characters from the first book in the ‘Uncompromising’ series, Talon (Talon), these were all new characters to me and I LOVED them! It was Ariel, Connor, Jason and a ton of alpha-male characters who wore their “alpha” persona well without being total jerks…once you get to know them a little bit anyway 😂. In fact, it’s the alpha-males that truly make this book what it is. Oh, and the heat meter that an alpha male character often provides? Yeah, it’s there. Oh hey – did I mention that Neil is hot? Like super-duper hot? Just wanted to make sure I put that in there. Because not only do we get characters who are completely believable, we also get to find out how they look. And even in print, they look GOOD. What is it about a guy who can be completely covered in sweat and it works? Neil is far and away the most alpha of all of the guys, and admittedly, his alpha stand-off attitude is a little hard to adjust to, but that is exactly how the author wants us to feel about him, it’s truly how we have to feel about him for this book to work. And it works. It really and truly works.
This is a great book. Neil is a great guy. Ariel rocks – she is a heroine who can save herself and she proves and has proven that over and again. Sybil Bartel’s novel is fabulous. I read it twice just to grab everything, and I am pretty sure that I will be reading it again. Because as Ariel states, the Viking-Sized Warrior crashes into your life like a hurricane.
Ex-Danish Military Special Forces, built like a legend, and uncompromising in every way—Neil Christensen didn’t walk into my life. The Viking-sized warrior crashed it like a hurricane.
The moment he showed up at my strip club, my life fell to sh*t. South Florida’s most ruthless motorcycle gang, the cops, the Feds—they all want something I don’t have, something the Viking took from me.
I thought I could run, but the motorcycle gang caught me. Now the only thing standing between me and an unmarked grave is a warrior I don’t trust.
I’m not afraid to die, but I am terrified of weathering the storm. Because when a Viking decides to unleash his fury, no one is going to come out unscathed.
Warning: This book contains alpha heroes, offensive language, violence and sexual situations. Mature audiences only. 18+

About Sybil Bartel:
Sybil Bartel grew up in Northern California with her head in a book and her feet in the sand. She dreamt of becoming a painter but the heady scent of libraries with their shelves full of books drew her into the world of storytelling. She loves the New Adult genre, but any story about a love so desperately wrong and impossibly beautiful makes her swoon.
Sybil now resides in Southern Florida and while she doesn’t get to read as much as she likes, she still buries her toes in the sand. If she isn’t writing or fighting to contain the banana plantation in her backyard, you can find her spending time with her handsomely tattooed husband, her brilliantly practical son and a mischievous miniature boxer…
Here are ten things you probably really want to know about Sybil.
She grew up a faculty brat. She can swear like a sailor. She loves men in uniform. She hates being told what to do. She can do your taxes (but don’t ask). The Bird Market in Hong Kong freaks her out. Her favorite word is desperate…or dirty, or both—she can’t decide. She has a thing for muscle cars. But never reply on her for driving directions, ever. And she has a new book boyfriend every week—don’t tell her husband.
