Good Morning My Friends,
I hope that the first few hours of March have been good for you! I am beyond excited to introduce you to Gloria Craw, whose book, Atlantis Quest, the second book in the ‘Atlantis Rising’ series comes out today by Entangled Teen!
A synopsis of Atlantis Quest:
After all they’d cost me, I thought I was done with the Truss clan. I was wrong. Nikki Dawning, my mortal enemy, has been kidnapped, and I’ve been asked to spy on the Truss to find her. The pull between Ian and I has never been stronger, but he can’t help me this time. I have to rely on Theron, a bad-tempered cousin I didn’t know I had. To make matters worse, the people I trust have been keeping secrets.
I’m starting to feel like a weapon in a war I don’t understand. How far am I willing to go to protect the descendants of Atlantis and the common good when I’m not sure what the common good is anymore?
Only one thing is certain. If I’m the next Laurel clan chief, I can’t let myself be manipulated…by anyone
Gloria’s Author Guest Post: Atlantis ~ From the Myth to the ‘Atlantis Rising’ Series
I was inspired to write the Atlantis Rising Series after taking an anthropology class that focused on undersea archaeology. The island of Atlantis is accepted as fiction these days, but I had a hilarious professor who did a lecture, debunking early theories about where it may have been. The whole things was entertaining and sparked my interest in the Atlantis Myth.
Plato wrote that the first people of Atlantis lived simple, peaceful lives. They were unique from other civilizations because of the economic and governmental quality among them. Seeing their virtue, the gods favored them and rewarded them with a wide understanding of science, architecture, seafaring and engineering. In time, their advanced technology made them rich…and wealth corrupted them. Plagued by selfishness and greed, the people sent warriors to fight and invade other nations.
The gods who had once favored the people of Atlantis for their morality were angered. They helped the Athenians win a battle against them and sent fire, floods, and earthquakes to shake Atlantis. No sooner did the warriors arrive home, than the entire island disappeared into the sea, never to be seen again.
Using Plato’s story for loose historical background, I imagined a small, highly evolved group of people escaping before Atlantis sank. The Atlantis Rising Series is about the adventures of their modern-day descendants.
Atlantis Quest Exclusive Excerpt:
“I’m surprised Theron has any friends,” I grumbled.
“Why do you say that?”
“Because he’s rude, insensitive, sarcastic, a morning person, and he dresses like a lumberjack.”
Ian chuckled. “The isolation and suspension must be getting to him. I’ll come punch him for you if you want.”
“Thanks for the offer, but I can punch him myself.”
“Just be patient. You’ll charm him with your weirdness like you did me.”
I smiled at the backhanded compliment. “What’s Stacy like?” I asked.
“She’s…hard to explain. She definitely likes cats, though.”
He turned his phone in a slow three-sixty. Everything from the walls to the bedding had some kind of cat print on it.
When Ian reappeared, I said, “That’s horrible.”
“I’m sort of afraid to sleep in here. They might come to life and eat me piece by piece or something. How are you doing? Are you feeling better about your secret mission?”
“Not really. When I have the time, I’m going to be pissed at you and your parents. None of you said anything about my father being from the Falco clan. Imagine the shock when Theron told me we’re related.”
Ian was quiet for a moment. “We wanted to give you some time to deal with everything else that’s happened,” he said. “Telling you Sebastian killed your Falco grandparents seemed like a little too much for you to process.”
Suddenly, I couldn’t swallow. Learning that Sebastian had spilled more of my family’s blood, stole my breath. This time he’d taken lives from another clan.
Making myself drag some oxygen in, I said, “Theron told me they were dead, not that they’d been murdered.”
His eyes softened as he looked at me. I could see a pang of guilt in them and how much he hadn’t wanted to cause me pain. “I’m sorry I didn’t tell you before,” he said.
“Well, tell me everything now.”
“Sebastian thought your father’s family might be hiding you. He made sure they weren’t.”
All I could think was that he’d killed them because of me. Then I imagined something even worse. “He tortured them first, didn’t he?” I asked.
Ian wouldn’t answer that question, which was answer enough.
“Ah…I feel sick,” I said.
“Crap. Stacy is knocking at the door. I have to go, but I want you to find Theron. Ask him what happened. He can give you details I can’t.”
“I changed my mind,” I replied. “I don’t want to know anything more, and I definitely don’t want to be around Theron.”
“Do it for me, Alison,” he pleaded. “You shouldn’t be alone right now.”

Gloria Craw grew up in the desert southwest, inspired every day by the wide skies and rich colors around her. She attended the University of Utah were she majored and got a degree in anthropology. These days, she lives in the “burbs” just outside of Seattle, Washington, where she is the shepherd of a husband, four daughters and a very hairy dog. She is the author of Atlantis Rising, published by Entangled Teen.
