And now…my interview with the fantastic MK Meredith:
Q) Will you tell us a bit about yourself and your background?
A) I’m a peanut butter addict and probably consume more in a week than most do in their lifetime all while wearing high heels. LOL! I’ve read romances since I was way too young, and am a hopeless romantic. I love love! And hugs!
I have two kiddos. My daughter is almost 10 and my son is 8. They are the very air I breathe. My husband and I have been together for 16 years, married for 12. There’s not another man on earth like him…not for me. Remember what I said about hugs? My family teases that they suffer from my SEA’s (spontaneous explosions of affection)! LOL! I go to hug them and squeeze too hard. My daughter says, ‘Mom, your love kinda hurts.’ Ha!
SEA’s?! Those sound fun! And maybe a little painful! OK, next question.
Q) Quickly, give us the title and genre of your novel and a 50-word or less tagline.
A) Malibu Secrets, Contemporary romance/novel length
Addi Decker, on the verge of losing her Malibu bungalow and needing to prove she can take care of herself, must swallow her dislike of Hollywood and rent the house out to the sexy-as-hell film producer. But she has a little secret, to save more money, she’s living in the attic.
Addi has just a little secret, huh? 🙂 This sounds like she’s begging for trouble. And fun! 😀
Q) Can you give us an interesting fun fact (or a few) about your series?
A) The fact that Hollywood even rents out homes for filming! I had no idea originally.
The heroines of this book and the first are sisters and are very different.
The series ‘Malibu Sights’ is about 30-somethings trying to make it in Hollywood.
Thanks for those – they really are interesting. I had NO idea that Hollywood homes are rented out for filming. That’s pretty awesome!
Q) So, in Malibu Secrets, who’s your favorite character? Why?
A) My favorite character right now is Jimmy Callahan. He is Roque (read as rock) Gallagher’s locations manager. He’s the kind of guy who means well but often puts his foot in his mouth. Ha! He’s always teasing Addi about her attraction to Roque.
Putting his foot in his mouth? I know nothing about doing that myself. Absolutely nothing!! 😐
Q) OK, now that we know your favorite character…Who’s your least favorite character and why?
A) Gage Cutler’s mother Cecilia from Malibu Betrayals. What an awful woman!
I completely agree. Ugh. Every time she was in a scene, I would find myself either grinding my teeth or rubbing my temples trying to remove her presence from my brain.
Q) Who is your intended audience and why should they read your book (over another book in the same genre)?
A) This series is great for readers who love novel length adult romances that offer an emotional ride and lots of heat. The characters are not perfect and they aren’t always strong. Sometimes they make decisions that make you cringe, but that is how I see it all around me every day and it is all about the growth they experience by the end. Readers should read my book to experience adults fighting through their lives and romances, with the coping skills they’ve been equipped with, to get out on the other side with a happy and satisfying life. Along with a lot of heat, a lot of laughs, and all the feels.
I underlined and bolded a section of your answer because it’s so very, very true and can help people reading figure out what coping skills they have to fight for the life that they truly want! You rock!!
Q) Do you have any tips for aspiring writers trying to get published?
A) Never stop learning. Cheryl St.John told me this during one of our first conversations. She’s an amazing and talented woman who knows the industry. Her explanation was that as soon as you think you know it all, your writing falls flat. Keep learning, keep writing.
My second piece of advice is that when you start submitting, tell yourself that ‘no’ will not stop you. You keep writing. You keep submitting.
That’s fantastic advice. Seriously. I feel as if I learn something to add to my writing from each author I’ve spoken with.
Q) Do you write a little every day or do you find yourself binge-writing more often than not?
A) I usually write 2,000 words a day, Monday thru Friday. But if my schedule gets busy, I may write a bit on the weekends when my family is busy doing other things. But it is really important for me to spend the evenings and lots of time with them. So finding a good balance is really important to me. I can’t binge write worth a crap! I’m too fidgety. I have to get up and move around. I’ll get burnt out if I have to do too much in one day. I want to always love writing. So I try to make sure I plan my deadlines so I can write in a way that makes me love the whole process.
Finding a good balance is definitely something I struggle with. It’s tough. But, at the same time, you’re a published author, so I think I need to work on that balance a little more. I want to be a published author one day as well!
Q) Do you participate in NaNoWriMo? If you do, did you participate this year?
A) So, usually no because it screws with my brain and makes me not write…BUT…I did this year.
q) Do you work with a group during NaNoWriMo to cheer you forward when you’re ready to give in? (We’ve ALL been there!)
a) I wrote with Romance On The Rocks, a great group of writers who are supportive and amazing.
q) Do you work from an outline that you write beforehand or do you start fresh November 1st?
a) I have my book outlined and ready to go!
I totes want in your group next year! ‘K?! OK! 😀
Q) When did you know that writing was going to be your profession? Did you work in another field prior to writing? If so, what was the catalyst behind your decision to write full-time?
A) I have my BS in Occupational Therapy with a minor in biology, I did this for almost 6 years. Then, due to my husband’s traveling with his job (Air Force), I got a job as a pharmaceutical representative which offered great flexibility, then did that for about 6 years. Then, one day—I’ll never forget it—my husband came home and offered me the opportunity to quit my job, write full-time and stay home with our kiddos. I about fell off the couch!
He is my real life hero.
So…now almost six years later, my third book is being published.
How cool! Having a supportive spouse is key – I really believe that! My hubby is my hero as well! He rocks!
Q) Who are your literary heroes? How do they influence your writing?
A) I have read just about every book by Nora Roberts. I loved losing myself in her stories and thought what a beautiful thing to be able to do. I’ve always found Jane Eyre incredibly romantic. And the writing life in general. How amazing to surround my life with emotional journeys that guarantee a happy ending? It is so very powerful, especially in today’s world where sadness and heartbreak is delivered to our laptops with one click of a button.
OK, random question time!! 🙂
Q) What is your favorite sport?
A) I love volleyball!
I love volleyball as well. Especially in the Olympics. Those players are absolutely amazing and there is so much at stake. I often find myself grinding my teeth during a match! lol
Q) Do you have a Hollywood crush? Who and why?
A) My Hollywood crush for the longest time has been Gerard Butler. I love the gritty alpha male he always plays. And that accent. Well, enough said. LOL!
Gerard Butler?!?! Umm, yes please!! 🙂
The movie ~ P.S. I love you?!? Yep, I cry every freaking time!!
Q) Who is your all-time favorite band?
A) I have more than one, but who I will mention today is Melody Gardot. Her whole story is all about perseverance in the face of great loss. She’s an inspiration, and her music is beautiful. She sings traditional vocal jazz, but then released Absence which is a Mediterranean jazz…AMAZING! And this past year, Currency of Man, which is jazzy and bluesy and so deep you almost weep. No joke. I love her.
Q) Have you seen them in concert?
A) I went for the first time October 5th at the Birchmere in Alexandria, VA. It is a dinner theater, and ohmygosh!!!! I got to eat my steak, drink my wine, and listen to one of my favorite musicians not five feet from her and the stage! I’ll never forget it!
Now, with all of that said, Adele’s new album is simply stunning!
That sounds FABULOUS – a dinner theater concert?! That would be super-duper sweet! Oh, imagine if it was Adele as the main attraction at a dinner theater…that would be awesome! Although she definitely wouldn’t need a microphone! Ha!!
Thank you so much for opening your life to your readers and giving us an insight into your work ethic, your favorite author and how they have inspired your writing and for answering all my goofy “just for fun” questions! ❤
And now, here are some ways to get in and stay in touch with MK Meredith!

The Meredith’s live in the D.C. area with their two large fur babies…until the next adventure calls.
